The suspension on this car is a truly trick set up. The front end features the Detroit Speed Speed 3 kit that offers incredible performance upgrades from stock 1969 Camaro form. Gone are the stamped steel control arms and in their place sit beautifully constructed tubular upper and tubular lower control arms. Fully adjustable Koni coil over shock replace the flimsy original shocks and giant springs. The new setup offers superb handling, excellent geometry and a very smooth ride. The original steering box is gone and in its place sits the DSE steering box which offers a tight feel, quick turn ratio, and it’s setup for power steering.
The rear suspension is constructed with the DSE Quadralink system. The suspension was designed without the use of heim joints that typically become very noisy and are prone to premature wear from road grime and dirt. In their place are high durometer rubber bushings, which are nice and quiet. The lower links feature the DSE Swivel link which allows the rear end to fully articulate. Gone of course are the leaf springs and in their place are adjustable Koni coil over shocks and nice springs. The package is extremely stable under hard acceleration and holds a straight line without any unnerving snap from the rear end. It’s also so much quieter than the offering of other competitors.
The Camaro is set up with Wilwood brakes on all four corners, and has custom made Billet Specialties wheels that are 18” in the front and 19” in the rear. The tires are Michelin Pilot Sports and the 12” wide rears have massive 335 tires. The transmission is a 700R4 ProStreet built for the horsepower. It has a stage-3 shift kit, reverse manual valve body, plus Kevlar band and clutches. It uses a 3,000 RPM stall converter. The rear end is a Moser 12 bolt with 3.73 gears and 33 spline axles.
This Chevrolet is powered by supercharged 461 cid motor built by Big Al’s Toybox. This motor is one bad mama. It makes 675 horsepower, has a 4-bolt mains, and Eagle 7/16 rods with ARP bolts. The complete rotating assembly has been balanced. The motor uses Comp Cams 650/650 roller, 4340 Steel crank, polished aluminum heads, Manley Stainless Steel Valves, Comp Cam Springs, ten degree Chromoly Retainers and locks, Jomar stud girdles, and Chromoly pushrods. The Camaro has dual Holley 750 Blower Carbs, Malory ignition and a 671 supercharger. The motor was fully set up, synchronized and dynoed.
This car really offers the best of both the Pro-Street and Pro-Touring world. It has incredible looks and the performance to back them up in every respect. For the die hard enthusiast, there may be no better street machine for your garage.
